The crew of 27 was rescued by other vessels, among them the Ro-Ro Cargo Ship Sinu-I-Wasa,
which were in the area, and taken to port where rescue forces were already waiting.

Also tugs from the nearby wharf attended as well as the Fijian Navy which dispatched a patrol boat.
The Fijian police was monitoring the situation.
There were no passengers on board as the ferry was only used for freight traffic recently.

The Fiji Maritime Safety Authority started an investigation.

Cargo ship Skog in trouble off Orkney islands, UK

A major air and sea rescue operation took place off Orkney Islands (UK) this morning (Nov 24),
after the crew of a cargo ship reported that it was drifting without engine power and taking on water.

Lifeboats from Kirkwall and Stromness are both involved in the rescue of the ship – the 99 metre cargo vessel
Skog carrying a cargo of paper – as is the Kirkwall based Coastguard tug and a Coastguard rescue helicopter.

A Coastguard spokesman giving an update on the situation said: “The Barbados registered cargo vessel Skog,
which was drifting off Orkney due to engine problems is now under tow."

“After the vessel reported that it was drifting without engine power and taking in water this morning,
Shetland Coastguard sent the Coastguard rescue helicopter to the scene and requested the Stromness and Kirkwall RNLI all weather lifeboats."

“The Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s emergency towing vessel,
Herakles was also sent to assist the vessel and an oil industry standby vessel Vos Hera also attended.”

The 10 crew members remain on board the ship, and pumps were transferred on board the Skog by the Coastguard helicopter.
The vessel has taken a tow line from the Herakles and will be taken to a yet to be confirmed port for repairs.

At 11.30am Coastguards reported that the vessel was in a position some 6.5 nautical miles east, north east from Papa Westray,
with conditions on scene described as moderate to rough seas.

Groot vrachtschip ramt kade IJmuiden
woensdag 25 november 2015 | 12:21

Scheduled for delivery in 2018/2019, two of these 20,000m3 tankers will be owned by Furetank,
and Älvtank and Thun Tankers will own one each.

According to the alliance, the vessels will be built to a design, developed by FKAB and Furetank,
with close to 50 % reduction of CO2 emissions.

Featuring the Tier III rules, the vessels will have dual fuel/LNG propulsion including LNG in port consumption,
LNG for Inert gas production, power production with floating frequency,
battery backup (UPS) for all vital functions to minimize use of auxiliary engines, installed ballast water cleaning system,
ice class 1A and Alternative Propulsion System.

The vessels will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance.

“It has been very interesting and developing for Furetank together with FKAB to create a design for future product/chemical tankers.
These vessels will be designed to meet all known future demands both from governments, the industry and from our customers,”
Lars Höglund, CEO Furetank Rederi AB, said.

which began production in January 2015 in the Gulf of Mexico’s Keathley Canyon area.
The two facilities are Anadarko’s most technically advanced truss spars to date,
with 80,000 barrels per day capacity. First oil from the Heidelberg Spar is expected in the 2nd quarter of 2016.
Filmpke
Both spars were constructed at Technip’s fabrication yard in Pori Finland.

Wärtsilä Ship Design to supply design for offshore vessel conversion

Dutch ship owner C-Bed has contracted Wärtsilä Ship Design to supply the design for rebuilding its Seismic Survey Vessel,
the ‘Viking II’, for use as a hotel vessel. When completed, the rebuilt ship will be used to accommodate and transfer service
personnel working on offshore wind farms. The rebuild project is being carried out at the Fayard AS shipyard in Denmark
and is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2016. The contract with Wärtsilä was signed in September.

Wärtsilä provided the original designs for the ‘Viking II’ earlier known as ‘Veritas Viking II’,
which was delivered in 1999 to the original owners, Eidesvik of Norway.

After the conversion, the vessel will have accommodation and hotel facilities for 125 people and will
feature a heave compensated gangway. The converted vessel will fulfil the requirements for Special Purpose
Ships and will in the future be named ‘Wind Innovation’.

“This is a fast delivery project and it was essential that our naval architects could respond to the owner’s needs quickly.
This we are able to achieve and our design will result in a vessel capable of operating efficiently in challenging
sea and weather conditions with a high level of passenger comfort,” says Ove H. Wilhelmsen,
Managing Director of Wärtsilä Ship Design Norway.

Wärtsilä has considerable experience in producing designs for the offshore wind turbine market,
both for service vessels as well as for installation applications. Conversion projects are becoming of
increasing interest for owners since there is a current over-supply of ships in many of the offshore application markets.

Stena Bulk invests in more IMOIIMAX tankers

Stena Bulk has placed an order for three 50,000 dwt IMOIIMAX MR tankers with the Chinese shipyard CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (CSSC OME) in Guangzhou.
It has also taken out an option on a further two vessels. The total value of the order is USD 200 million.
The first delivery is planned for the end of 2017 after which the vessels will be delivered at 3-monthly intervals.
st.jpg
st.jpg (87.22 KiB) 2445 keer bekeken
The vessels now ordered are of the same type as the ten chemical and product tankers ordered by Stena Bulk in 2012 from the same shipyard,
the first four of which were delivered earlier this year. All the IMOIIMAX tankers will be deployed in Stena Weco’s global logistic system,
which currently employs more than 60 vessels.

“We are very satisfied with the performance of the IMOIIMAX tankers and are thus adding to this part of our fleet still further.
With their greater efficiency as regards fuel consumption and cargo,
these vessels are also environmentally superior compared to many other vessels in their class, which, of course,
is a major advantage. Commercially, they are a good complement to our fleet”, says Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk.

Four of the ten vessels ordered earlier – the Chemical/Oil Products Tanker Stena Impression, Stena Image,
Stena Imperial and Stena Important – were delivered this year and the remaining six vessels will be delivered by 2017.
Of the ten IMOIIMAX tankers, one is wholly owned by Stena Bulk, six are owned together with GAR (Golden Agri Resources),
two are owned by the sister company Concordia Maritime and one is wholly owned by Stena Weco.

The IMOIIMAX concept is a further development of a well-established and successful concept offering extra high cargo flexibility and even lower fuel consumption.
Stena Teknik, together with the shipyard GSI, was responsible for the technical development of the IMOIIMAX concept.
The IMOIIMAX tankers have 18 tanks enabling them to transport both vegetable oils and chemicals such as petroleum products.
