The world's largest cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas, at midnight Saturday, successfully squeezed under the Great Belt Bridge, between the two Danish islands Sealand and Funen, The cruise liner had to lower its telescopic smokestacks to get under the bridge.
The Oasis of the Seas passed below the Great Belt Bridge at 0018 local time, on its maiden voyage to Florida.
Hundreds of Danes gathered on both ends of the bridge, to enjoy the spectacular sight in the cold clear night.
Both the cruise ship and the bridge were brightly lit, making the scene even more dramatic.

Even though the cruise ship had lowered its telescopic smokestacks, there were less than a 2-foot from the top of the ship to the bridge.
Oasis of the Seas was built by STX Finland for Royal Caribbean International, and is now on its maiden voyage to its homeport Port Everglades, Florida.

The 1.5 billion dollar ship has 2.700 cabins and can accommodate 6.300 passengers and 2.100 crew members. The cruise ship is 40 pct. bigger than the second largest cruise ship in the world.

I am sure most know well that OM Ships is a Christian Organisation that does
a superb job around the world providing aid in third world countries and
provides free books, secular as well as others for schools in need. For
interest the article is not edited the item below and thus it is as

"The ministry of OM's ship Doulos will come to an end on 31st December 2009.

Doulos is the world's oldest ocean-going passenger ship, now 95 years old,
with the hull built in 1914, just two years after Titanic. In spite of the
all year round maintenance that has taken place, the amount of steel
replacement and other repairs needed for her to continue sailing are
overwhelming. The ship is presently in Singapore and has been undergoing the
annual period of dry dock and surveys. Early indications are that the work
would cost over ?10 million and take five months to complete. The OM Ships
executive leadership team and board believes that is not appropriate to
invest resources of this scale into the ship, since Doulos would have a
limited ministry future.

Chief Executive Officer of OM Ships International, Peter Nicoll, said, "The
outcome of this is that Doulos will not be able to continue in ministry.
This is not what any of us wanted, and has serious consequences for everyone
on board, those about to join and for ports we planned to visit." "We are
committed to operating safe ships and complying with the requirements of our
classification society, RINA, as well as the International Safety Management
requirements for ships," affirms Peter Nicoll. "We have been praying that
God would use this five-year 'special survey' to give us a clear picture of
the way forward for Doulos and that He has done." The well-being of the 280
crew and staff onboard is of paramount importance. Each person will receive
the guidance and support they need to decide what their next steps should
be. Some are close to the end of their period of service, while others
joined as recently as September.

Keeping the ship compliant with the highest marine standards has been a real
challenge over the years. It is a remarkable testimony to the
professionalism and dedication of the non-profit organisation's technical
personnel that the ship has continued to meet marine requirements until now.
CEO Peter Nicoll stated, "We recognise God's faithfulness through these 32
years of wonderful service of the 'servant'-Doulos- as an outstanding OM
ministry, through more than 600 port visits in over 100 countries. Many
lives have been transformed, both visitors and those who have served on
board. We are also deeply grateful to our partners around the world who have
supported the ship in ministry through the years. Please continue to pray
with us as we work on present challenges and seek the Lord for the future.
With Logos Hope now active and exciting ministry taking place, we are
investigating possible options to charter another ship in the interim and
have already begun working on the Doulos replacement project. Contributions
should be given through your local OM office and designated 'Doulos Project'.

TITANIC herdenkings cruise.

Het British reisbureau “Miles Morgan Travel” neemt reserveringen aan voor deze unieke cruise welke
De tragische reis van de titanic van April 1912 herdenkt.
De reis van 12 nachten/dagen zal vertrekken van Southampton op 8 April 2012 aan boord van ms Balmoral en zal de origineele route van de titanic, via Cherbourg en Cobh volgen.
Origineele menus van 1912 zullen in het restaurant geserveert worden en foto’s van de origineele reis zullen tentoon gesteld worden
Het schip zal aankomen op de plaats waar de titanic gezonken is op 14/15 April, precies 100 jaar na de ramp.
Een herdenkings dienst zal worden gehouden voor de 1500 passagiers en bemanning die bij deze ramp om het leven gekomen zijn.
Negen cabin grades zijn alreeds uitverkocht , vele aan nabestaanden van de omgekomene.
Kost prijzen: cruise tussen 2800 en 8700 euro p.p.

Ik las hier in de krant en op de site van Kristina Cruises dat er een vervanger komt voor de Kristina Regina in augustus 2010.
Het is ook al een beetje bejaarde de dame nl. The Iris, ex Konstantin Simonov. Gebouwd in 1982 in Polen.
Ze zal Kristina Katarina gaan heten en heeft 195 hutten.
Willem van der Leek schreef al op pagina 64 dat ze niet meer aan de eisen voldoed in 2010.
Wat er met de Kristina Regina gebeurd weet men nog niet of men laat zich hier nog niet over uit.

Hallo allemaal,

Vanmorgen kwam met de post een folder van de Holland America Line met het vaarschema voor 2010.
Normaal verdwijnt de folder bij het oud papier ( we vinden de HAL veel te duur), maar het levert wel een mooi plaatje op van de 'Noordam' bij vertrek uit Venetië.
Helaas hebben we een mooie cruise van Genua naar de Kanarische Eilanden v.v. wegens omstandigheden moeten annuleren, maar zijn er vast van overtuigd dat er weer eentje aan zit te komen dit jaar.

Weer gewonden door grote golf op cruiseschip
CEDIZ - Opnieuw is een cruiseschip door een zeegolven geteisterd, waardoor vijf gewonden gevallen zijn. Het Marokkaanse schip Atlas voer in de Straat van Gibraltar toen een grote golf een raam van de recreatieruimte insloeg, meldden Spaanse media zondag.

De slachtoffers raakten gewond door rondvliegende glassplinters. Een zwangere vrouw moest voor observatie naar een ziekenhuis gebracht worden.

De Atlas was met 125 passagier van het Marokkaanse Tanger onderweg naar Algeciras in Zuid-Spanje toen het zaterdag in zwaar weer terechtkwam. Het schip wist toch de haven van Algeciras te bereiken.

Woensdag werd een cruiseschip met 1350 toeristen en 580 bemanningsleden aan boord voor de Spaanse noordoostkust getroffen door reuzengolven, die de ramen van een salon kapotsloegen. Daardoor kwamen twee passagiers om en raakten veertien anderen gewond. (ANP)
